Bodega 202 aspires to make great wines from Rioja Alavesa´s most exciting ancient-mountain vineyards, wines that express the sense of the place aided by a vineyard driven approach and respect for Terroir.
The high elevation provides a perfect balance to the slow ripening grapes of tempranillo. Low temperatures while maturation takes place allows for a slower process, providing for much thicker skins, more resistant to illness.
Our oldest vines are 80 to 100 years. The aged vines are the best restraint for yield, allowing us to obtain extraordinary concentrated and aromatically complex wine, with the capacity for long aging periods giving elegance and finesse to the wines.
The characteristic calcareous-clay soils of the Rioja Alavesa provide for balanced structure, poor organic content, and a restrained vegetative potential.
