THE BODEGA 202 STORY
Founded in 2014 by Francis and Kathleen Rooney, Bodega 202 strives to handcraft small-batch vintages from old high-altitude plots, focusing on quality over quantity. The Rooney’s Rioja Alavesa journey began while walking the Camino de Santiago, “Saint James Way.” There is no better way to experience Rioja Alavesa, the land, the wine, the deep history, and the warmth of the people than walking through the Ebro Valley.
Today, the operation is managed by the Rooney’s son, Michael and Luis Guemes, our winemaker and general manager in Laguardia.
THE VISION
Bodega 202 winemaking blends the unique terroir and elegant aromas of the Tempranillo grape together with a bold and innovative vitcultura to impart our personal signature on each vintage. We have great respect for the climate and soils of Rioja Avalesa, which have been recognized worldwide. We look forward to sharing our wines with you. Bodega 202 is located just outside of the medieval, fortified town of Laguardia in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa.

Step by step, Francis and Kathleen fell in love with Rioja.
